First Friday: Tattered Treasures

  • Woodruff-Fontaine House Museum 680 Adams Ave Memphis, TN 38105 (map)

About the Event: The Woodruff-Fontaine House Museum is home to the most extensive Victorian era textile and clothing collection in the South! With over 4,000 pieces in our collection, the museum is continuously rotated and staged appropriately for the season. Sadly, many gowns and textiles are too badly damaged to be safely put on display. Join us for the exhibit opening of "Tattered Treasures" as we unlock our archives to the public and showcase the shattered and frayed textiles that were once worn by the wealthiest and most prominent citizens in the Mid-South. These garments were once seen as beautiful works of art! When worn by the elite they made fashion statements at glittering galas and turned heads for a promenade through the park. Delight in our torn and thread bare wardrobe that was once adorned and embellished by the well-to-do.
